MiniStumber is a Swiss Army Knife for Pocket PCs equipped with a WiFi connection: this handy program lets you search for available wireless networks compatible with the WiFi connection of your Pocket PC. This is otherwise known as a "sniffer". It detects the MAC address of the emitter, the SSID if it is broadcast, the name, the WiFi channel, the connection speed, security type, identifies the target equipment, signal strength, IP address, the distance from the connection point and the geographic co-ordinates if a GPS is attached to the Pocket PC (and activated - NMEA 0183 standard).
Besides all this, the full program supports scripts to automate searching and connection.
Still, it's a shame the average compatibility with the PDA including the native WiFi connections (like a certain iPAQ) but an important optimisation task and take charge of numerous chipset netorks (such as the classic Intersil Prism/Prism2) is on the way.
Note that version 0.4.0 is now available as a PC install, and that this program, being developed can only improve.
It is also compatible with a number of important Windows CE systems: HPC2000, PocketPC 2000, PocketPC 2002 and Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC.

Be forewarned, this program does NOT work on iPAQs. There is a better program for iPAQs specifically and it too is free:
It's called wififofum:
http://www.wififofum.org/
It's a great program and can only get better with time.
|
Ministumbler works on iPAQs! It only does not work with instegrated WiFi cards in iPAQ 54xx and 55xx series.
WiFiFoFum still *is* a superior program (IMHO).

I tried NetStumbler on my 4155 didn't work. I installed WiFi forum instead. I also intalled PocketWiNc from Cirond. I liked Pocket WiNc the best! Highly recommend. Her is the link: http://www.cirond.com/pocketWinc.html

Doesn't work on BlueAngel (and badge-engineered versions) - or, at least, it doesn't on my SPV M2000.
WiFiFoFum does it for me, too.
