Reclamation is a program that lets you make miniature cartoons. Now of course you're not going to be coming up with a remake of "Monsters," but you'll simply be able to animate small drawings composed of polygons and straight lines, black-and-white or in color. The editing options aren't enough to get a satisfactory result (in particular, I wasn't successful in keeping the previous frame on screen so as to draw the next one), particularly when one is as talented as I ... But note that this is a program which is taking its first steps.
In any event, if you approach it from the "fun" side of things, I can guarantee you that kids will love it. It reminded me of the drawings I used to do a long time ago on sheets of paper in little packets, which I would flip through to simulate a cartoon.

This is an excellent freeware by Pablo Reda. I have seen it updated twice since I first found it here on PocketPC Freewares. Reda is better than some commercial animation programs for PocketPC I've registered (which will remain nameless). Reda uses vector object technology rather than the more common pen stoke deltas (e.g., mouse moves), which gives you the ability to move your object from one frame to the next rather than having to draw it again. It works something like this: Draw a figure such as the stick person pictured with this description. Click the "new frame" button and there your stick person is again. You can now modify a part of it without having to redraw the whole thing again. Changes between frames use TRANSITIONS, which means the software gracefully morphs the object rather than merely having it jump from point A to point B. For example, if you draw the letter "L" in frame 1, then in frame 2 convert it to the letter "O", the software automatically creates frames inbetween so there is animation sort of between frames. Very nice. The author put a lot of effort into the GAPI-based display engine to make it run quickly (GAPI is to PocketPC what DirectX is for Windows). On my iPAQ 2210, I notice no speed issues no matter how many line, circle, square (etc) objects I have on the screen at once. Reda Animation is a work in progress and the author is adding features to it when he has time. As of v0.9, Reda Animation requires that animations be located in the \reda folder, so they cannot be stored on flash, but I suspect this will change as RA matures. Take it from this freeware junkie and check it out! Beware, RA can be adictive and may lead to severe lack of productivity :^>

I couldn't get it to make any animation of any sort, but that is probably an isolated occurance due to my lack of knowledge on this type of software. MikeInDallas sounds much more informed than I, so listen to him. ;)

This is a pretty incredible program! I had a very difficult time figuring out how to use it, but I finally did get it to run an animation. I only wish there were an English set of instructions somewhere, but I have not yet found any. Version 0.12's interface looks completely different than the one shown in the picture above. This program has lots of potential! At present, I would give it a 6/10.
