KeePass is a fantastic application for storing passwords! I was previously using Password Safe (on SourceForge.net), which is similar, but KeePass offers many additional features not found in Password Safe.
What really makes KeePass stand out from the others is that it has both a version for PocketPC and one for Windows Desktop. So you can enter and view your password data on either platform. If you update password data on one platform, the other platform gets updated automatically during ActiveSync.
One feature I really like is that KeePass allows you to organize your passwords into groups, which you create. This makes it much easier to locate passwords when needed.
This program easily deserves an 8 out of 10.

Yes I agree I have been using it for a couple of months and have found it great. It should get an 8.
|
I have been using this for almost two weeks and I already find it indispensable. I love the functionality and I haven't hit any bugs yet. The only disadvantage I have found is that it doesn't sync through ActiveSync - you have to manually copy the password file to your desktop, but once it's there, you're all set.
I would've given this a 9 if it could sync through ActiveSync, so it gets an 8 instead. Excellent soft.

I believe the 5 given above is too low for such a fantastic app. This app deserves at least an 8, possibly even 9. What more could you want in a Password Manager ? It does nearly everything, and does it with ease.
Duhghe - YOU CAN SYNC THIS APP using ActiveSync. Just create your KeePass database file in your PC's ActiveSync directory, for example:
\My Documents\PocketPC MyDocuments\mypasswords.kdb
Then start KeePass on your PC, and go into the top menu EDIT > OPTIONS > START AND EXIT
and check both boxes to have it remember the last database you opened, and automatically save it upon exit. That will make life easy for you, so you don't have to keep browsing for your database when you start KeePass.
Next, start KeePass on your PPC. Now you can then open the same mypasswords.kdb (or whatever you call it) and it will be in your PPC \My Documents folder, because it was transfered automatically via ActiveSync.
So now, whenever you update your passwords on one platform, it will automatically be updated on the other!
This APP IS FANTASTIC !!!! :)

Note: Not a direct download, must enter your name and email address and a link will be sent via email.

I think that the rate that was given is very low, it's a excellent program, very useful, and very easy to use, I think an 8 or 9 would be fair.
|
It needs to automatically sync to the PC version via Activesync before it deserves an 8 or 9.
|
Rage of Thor ... read my comment above. KeePass does have the ability to automatically sync with PC.
|
Wow, I never thought of doing it that way. Now I regret not reading everything fully! ^_^

I do not know why this great freeware got a 5. I give it an 8. I was using a freeware for windows only called "anypassword" and it was great (used it for almost a year). It had folder type dividers for passwords. The only drawback was I could not have the same file for my iPAQ and Windows. Along comes Keepass. It has Windows and PDA programs that can read and write on the same file, which means I can use only one file for both the PDA and Windows in my Laptop. I like it. Upgrade the rating to 8 or at least 7.
Later.

That's why these comments are useful :)
While the Windows version is very good, I definitely do not like in the PPC version (major gotchas IMHO and I always assume the PPC program is used alone):
- the lack of categories
- the fact that the program does not close alone if unused during some time, allowing anyone to read my data if they happen to turn my PPC on.
|
Remember the author encourages you to use the win32-pc version for all your editing and the ppc version for viewing
based on that concept I will give the program 7 out of 10
Most of my data entries are done on the pc version of the software, so the ppc version is a great companion.

The link on this site is dead. Here is the new link:
http://keepass.net/index.php?kppc-download
Also, I couldn't get version 0.3.0 to work with my Axim X5 that has Pocketpc 2002 OS on it, but version 0.2.2 works great.
I love being able to sync with the desktop version!
|
v0.3.0 is compiled with EVC4 which is NOT compatible with PPC2002. Get the source code and re-compile in EVC3 and you can use it with PPC2002.
|
I like what I see so far, but where can I find the desktop version?
|
Try the link where it says "Web Site" above in the program-description.
Also a newer version (v0.4.0) for PPC is there (look under "Downloads" on that site)!
|
Wow ! This is great !! Thanks !!!
|
Version 0.4 for PPC works great. Also loaded the new desktop version 1.06. Both platforms can share the same password database by storing it in the ActiveSync folder \My Document\Pocket_PC. Only feature I would like to see added to the PPC version, is the ability to COPY/PASTE userid and password. The desktop version has this feature.
|
Go to http://keepass.info/ for all downloads (desktop and PPC). Everything you need to know about KeePass is available there.
|
I use to complaining about graphics for most programs, but this is perfect. I don't know if security level is adequate for saving codes of JFK files, however is very easy to use, and the most impressive is password generator which have tons of parameters. Until now flawless. I have hx2750 WM2003SE.
|
I just found a way to do COPY/PASTE in KeePass on the PPC. First select the info to copy. Then use the PPC's popup keyboard, and enter CTRL + C to copy, and CTRL + V to paste. Works great !!!
|
good software works on htc touch
|
It is not easy to get the desktop version (V1.08) downloded. I had to search for it from the linked web site to another site and another site where I finally got registered and downloded the program. You need to put the data file in the ActiveSync exchange folder from where both the mobile device and the destop PC can access. After all of this Keepass becomes a great program.
|
For this is essential software, syncing with the desktop version is easy (you just use the normal ActiveSync "sync files" feature)
Highly recommended!
|
I don't know where to rate, so i do it here. 8/10, without sync, but 9/10 with ActiveSync.
Very great job. Congratulations to the authors.
|
Use the portableapps.com version of the desktop software (v.1.14) for use on a usb drive! This software deserves a solid 9 for the FREE PPC program AND FREE desktop program.
|
HTC Hermes, 4GB microSDHC, WM 6.1
I couldn't get this program to copy/paste passwords out of it, which makes my generated 20 character passwords difficult to use (the PC counterpart using the same data works just fine). As has been mentioned before, placing the KDB file into the My Documents on the device will sync to the computer, which is great to keep all the data synced up. One feature I wish the PPC port had was auto-type because of my longer passwords, but there's no great loss.
Overall, a 7/10.
