Pocket SharpMT - v3.3 Categorie: Internet
Screen Shot
Pocket SharpMT is a moblogging program for bloggers using a Movable Type platform (TypePad blogs, for example).

Not having an MT blog, I could only test it on a blog based on DotClear. That was made possible by the use of the XML-RPC protocol, which both of these tools support (don’t ask me anything else ... that’s all I know!).

From the functions I was able to use and those that seem to be included, Pocket SharpMT is really quite complete. Title, category, text, extended text (not recognized by Dotclear, but I assume MT does, not a problem) and key words are all there and waiting for creating postings. Some HTML formatting tags are available (bold, italic, underline) with two tags that can be personalized.

Inserting a URL is made easy by a form containing the fields URL, text, title and target. In short, everything to make it easy to enter notes, topped off by saving and re-opening of drafts to provide additional flexibility.

Management of note properties is also quite advanced, with the ability to define the status of a posting (draft or public) as well as authorize comments and trackbacks. You can even specify addresses to ping, either to referencing services or to perform a trackback (the URL’s, however, are entered manually, and thus you need to know them “by heart.”).

Moreover, one notes (and appreciates) the file upload module, in particular for images, with automatic insertion of the IMG tag (this too not usable under DotClear, and thus not tested).

Final point, in fact one of the most important points for this type of software: support of accented characters and other special characters. All thanks to a little sleight of hand which consists of transforming them into “pure” HTML code: no more coding problems!

The only regret is the extremely bare-bones interface and the inability to handle notes already on line, when correcting them, for example. Furthermore, the clipboard appears to have been disabled by Pocket SharpMT, making any Copy/Paste operation impossible: rather annoying, when trying to copy a URL you’ve gleaned into PocketIE!

All that’s left to say is that this software will satisfy quite a few “Pocket bloggers.” Movable Type first and foremost, but on other platforms (awaiting testing) too, thanks to the “universality” of the XML-RPC protocol.

Update: The Cut/Copy/Paste function appears to be working from v2.6.2... so the negative points are becoming fewer and fewer!

This is a good piece of software. I've found that WordPress (free) works quite well with this too.

Would be nice to be able to copy and paste tho. A few times I simply used notepad and copy and pasted the sections I needed in the draft file to get around this. But it'd be really nice of copy and paste could be implemented.

New version out - v2.6.2

It now does copy/cut/paste, etc.

Can you blog offline and upload the file/page later?
