HandyShopper is a grocery shopping management program. It was originally designed for the Palm, which means it was created to be simple and do one thing as efficiently as possible.
The Pocket PC is an "alpha" but I haven't yet encountered any problems (Loox 720). It uses 341kb memory (plus space for the lists).
It lets you do a number of tasks with ease: generate multiple lists, define quantities & prices. It even calculates the total, taking into account VAT (GST) and discount coupons (I must admit I didn't test these features that didn't interest me), etc.
When you start it the first time it is empty and asks you to create a database (database = list). You then fill out this list with the items that you need: bread, milk, Porsche, etc. You tick the items to hide them (the display is customisable, cross-out, hide, ...).
If the program is simple it is no less powerful. For each list you define categories, priorities and shops (which appear in the form of a scrolling list at the top-left of the screen). This improves enormously the precision of the lists and ease of use. As there's not much point in displaying "Laser printer toner" or "blank DVDs" if you are at the corner store, or "lettuce" when you are in a bookstore. So, for each item, you have to define the shop where you find it and then select the shop (or type, if you are like me: clothing, food, computer, etc) when you find it to only display the products that you want to get.
It is already very handy, but that's not all. You can customise the display of each list by choosing from 12 columns/fields: quantity, price, date, etc.
The main view displays all lists, and shows next to each the number of items remaining to purchase compared to the total. This lets you quickly work out your progress in each list. The icing on the cake, from the main window you can search for a word through all lists: you only have to click on the result to display the contents of the corresponding list.
In each list, a very handy tool lets you pick items according to three keys (that you select). This lets you organise your lists: alphabetically, by priority, by quantity, by date, etc. In fact the program would be just as good as a work management tool: checklist, task or project manager, etc.
Which is essentially how I use it.
Notes:
1/ There are a number of utilities to edit HandyShopper databases on the PC, either Excel or directly (HsPCEditor). You can find them at the Yahoo group devoted to HandyShopper.
2/ When you are in a list, to return to the main menu, you have to click on the yellow folder at the top-left. I only mention it because it wan't obvious to me ;-)

The best shopping list application available (except that it does not have an integrated desktop version, although there are some options available). I was reluctent to leave the Palm OS for PPC because I found the Palm version of this application indespensible. Incredible relief to find that there is now a PPC version. Although currently in Alpha, it is better quality then most commercial applications.

The current 3.0 Alpha version (who needs beta versions and final releases with such alpha quality) is working flawlessly on my iPAQ hx4700. It is versatile, relatively easy to understand and intuitively to work with, and if not - trial and error will do fine.. - although I'd wish there were more categories to create. (limitless would be great :))

Excelent Program! I used it on my Palm TT and was delighted to find I could port my lists to my new PPC (although the longer established Palm version does have a few more features). Well worth adding to anyones machine - it can be used as a very sophisticated To-Do, not just a Shopping manager.

Usefull program. Graphics are pretty good. Is a valueble tool when I go to super market. When you leave in a country were prices are stable you can automaticaly calculate checkout way before cashier. Every item preferencialy have a lot off parameters: price, quantity, aisle, priority, category, etc.
I have hx2750 WM2003SE.

This is one of my most used and useful tools on my PPC (hp4150). I make lists of clients with supporting information in the notes section, lists of CDs and books, etc. The user interface is fantastic with just enough customizable features.

Hard to download the CAB for the Pocket PC. Found it here: http://www.passionnement.info/programmes/.
|
Can anyone help me obtain the cab for windows mobile and tell me how to install it .
Many thanks

If you want the cabinet file only, start installation on your PC without the PPC connected. After the installation routine, the installer will reply that no PPC is attached etc. Now go to program file\handyshoppper directory where you will find the cabinet file. Copy it to your PPC
Tapping on the cabinet file will install it (from WM5 on) With older PPC OS versions you have to use a cabinet installer. Look for programs like CabInstll.

great app, despite the shortcoming in design, it has fairly good/extensive function/components. Wrote a review w/ video here: http://www.careace.net/2009/12/18/handyshopper-manage-your-shopping-list-on-windows-mobile/
