Pocket WakeUp - v1.1 Categorie: Clocks
Screen Shot
You may have noticed that, by default, the alarm and notification systems are far from optimal... not to say hazardous! Pocket WakeUp only replaces the alarm system, not notifications. But it does it in such a manner as to totally supersede the standard alarm.

An alarm is defined with a day of the week (there's no calendar to let you set an alarm in 2 months time, for example) and a time: basically it's a morning wake up call. Just like the standard alarm. But that's the only thing in common.
Pocket WakeUp can handle up to 10 different alarms, nameable, each with different rules.
The choice of days is done via tick boxes. For the time (in 24h format), you only have to click on the numbers (tens and units are seperate) to increment them by 1. I promise, that is the only negative point that I found, if you miss your number, you have to go around again. This entry mode is common across all screens.
The alarm can be automatically repeated if no action is performed when the alarm sounds (by default it doesn't repeat). The waiting time is configurable from 5 to 90 minutes (in 5 minute intervals). It is even possible to set a time period where the repeat alarm is allowable so that a forgotten alarm (is that even possible with the program?) doesn't spoil a good night's sleep.

The audio file can be placed anywhere on your Pocket PC, thanks to an in-house file explorer. This explorer lets you hear the file in advance and see the duration. It supports 3 file formats: the classic WAV file, and the famous mp3 and Ogg Vorbis. It's a shame it doesn't support WMA.
The minimum duration of the alarm can be set. In the case that the selected file isn't long enough (such as when you are using a standard WAV file) it will repeat for as long as is necessary.
The volume can be raised automatically (and will be returned to its initial state after the alarm is finished). Very handy if you have turned the sound off so as to not be disturbed by other notifications. The Pocket PC can also be set to turn off after the alarm is finished.

Once the alarm has sounded, you can also, manually, make it repeat or stop it, as well as turn off the Pocket PC.

Another little thing: each button and control has a pop-up box that explains its use. It is possible to stop subsequent appearances of the pop-ups by ticking a box.

The numerous options requires playing around with, as with all programs of this type, in order to get the expected effect.
In particular, installation on a storage card. On the test machine, a Loox 720, it took too long to recognise the SD card, so long that the program could not be found. This meant that the program caused an error and it didn't sound the alarm!
Installation of the LooxStore (ROM) is possible. By contrast, the audio file can be stored anywhere, even on the storage card.

Note: For Pocket PCs fitted with the system, in particular the Pocket PC Phone Edition, the alarm can be accompanied by the vibrator. Not having one, I can't comment on it.

Hi,
I know - this is french page, but I really don't speak this language. Maybe somebody can translate review and give us some tips in english how to use it.
Thanks in advance

R. DevilR (04-28-2005) - v1.1
The review will be soon translated. And the author told me that a new version will be soon released, with, particulary, english support.

agollum (04-29-2005) - v1.1
Thanks, I'll wait for new version - this application looks good and I hope will be usefull.

Matthew (04-30-2005) - v1.1
The application looks fantastic. Though, the program itself is in French........... Any English version?

nakataphone (06-08-2005) - v1.1
This is a great alarm clock! Although it is only in French at the moment, it is quite easy to guess what each button does. The best thing now is that I get to wake up listening to my MP3's stored in my memory card. Another thing is that even if your PocketPC system volume is turned down or even in mute, this program's volume control will override the one in your PPC. No more excuses to sleep in! I am sure an English version will come soon.

I looked all over the internet for a simple alarm that would "wake up" my Windows Mobile 5 phone and play an MP3 at a volume independent of the system volume - installed and uninstalled loads of useless trial programs. This one works perfectly, and it's free! Translated the French on Babelfish. Kudos to the author - "tres bon".

patrick ross (06-01-2006) - v1.1
hey. any news on the english version of this? thanks!

dspent (06-10-2006) - v1.1
Yes, please anyone have news on an english version of this app?

ddorga (06-25-2006) - v1.1
That is a great program, for which I looked for a long time. Even if the program runs in French language, one can out-get most with little knowledge of the language. To recommend much!

glycerine (07-16-2006) - v1.1
I tried to translate most of the resources for Pocket WakeUp.

Here are the two executables if anyone wants to try it out:
http://www.derk.ca/downloads/ppc/pocket_wakeup_1.1_english.zip
Unzip and replace in \Program Files\Pocket WakeUp\

glycerine (06-19-4707) - v1.1
avibo, try this:

asproulis25 (10-24-2006) - v1.1
i 've downloaded the english version and there are to EXE files. I can't install the via windows or PPC (qtek S200).
How can i intall it?

Thanoa (10-25-2006) - v1.1
Look everyone, just relax....breathe in. All you have to do is install the original program first. Unless the above link is working again, I don't think that the link above gives you pocketwakeup. However, don't dismay! Just go into any popular search engine and type pocket wakeup. Install it first, then use the english files. Just explore your PPC when you synchronize and replace the existing files with these new ones (in the pocketwakeup directory; you know your in the right place when you see the original icons of alarms clocks in the folder) and most of it will be translated in english.

glycerine (10-25-2006) - v1.1
thank you Thanoa, that is it exactly. i didnt bother to make an installer. the french version alone is still wonderful. i just figured english words would help some more people with it. i use this app every day, well at least every morning.

geocitizen (10-25-2006) - v1.1
Hello, I just download Pocket WakeUp - v1.1 and the file name is "attachment.php" I am using a HP iPaq, how do I install this program? Do I need a program like WinZip to extract this file? I try to open it with file explorer on the iPaq, but it did not work. I appreciate your hlep. Thanks ahead.

sodtom (11-16-2006) - v1.1
Rename attachment.php to .zip and open with any zip capable software ...

hjwest46 (02-08-2007) - v1.1
When I try to download this I come to a registration page that is all in French. Anyway to do this in English or I am just missing something? No problem downloading the English version.

jmconte (03-07-2007) - v1.1
Hullo!
I have a Dell Axim and this program seems to work fine, however I had to uninstall it cuz everytime the alarm ringed, it would block one of the like sound channels, so if I wanted to listen to music I would get sound from just one of the earphones. The problem seems to be solved when I reset the PDA, but then it comes back whenever the alarm ring again. I tested it many times to make sure the problem was the wake up software, and it really is...
Now I just don't wake up anymore cuz the original alarms can't really wake me up!
I would appreciate any help!

nattirbee (11-24-2007) - v1.1
I love this! I have it in french. I don't even know french.... and this is still the most useful application I have on my Aximx51v. It's not tough to figure out or understand. And instead of keeping the device turned on to wake up to a choice of either "beep beep. beep beep." or "beeeeeeeeeep beep beep. beeeeeeep beep beep." I can let it sleep too and wake up to my boyfriend's voice, or linkin Park.
