Can this be installed on an iPaq 2210 with wm2003? If so, which file do I download?
The Opera Mini only works on Windows Mobile Phones, not on standard PPC's
Here's a list of supportet models:
http://www.opera.com/products/mobile/products/
Then it should state that information instead of informing users that it works on ARM/SCALE MIPS and SH3. It says nothing in this listing about it ONLY working on mobile phones.
That info, is available here:
http://www.opera.com/winmobile/
I agree that it's stupid, but that's the way it is, the problem is, that Opera Mini is a Java app, and WM on Pocket PC, does not support Java. Maybe somone can find a workaround for it???
It's working fine for me under Windows Mobile 5.
Thought java had been supported under Windows Mobile for some time?
Well it doesn't work under WM2003.
do you not have the midlet manager then? I also have a WM2003 SE device, but haven't tried it on there yet. It does have the midlet manager though, so I'd expect it to.
It looks like the "Midlet Manager" is only supportet by WM2003 Phone Edition, WM2003SE, and WM5.0, but not the old WM2003 or older :o(
So the perfekt PPC (iPAQ h2210/2215) is now officially antique :o( *CRY*
Is Opera working on a native PPC version (not Java)?
oh Well, I won't loose sleep over this. It just should be labeled correctly HERE.
Here's a link to the non-java, ppc, windows mobile version (in beta):
http://www.opera.com/products/mobile/products/winmobileppc/
matriculated: Very thanks to you!
but not works on my WM 03 strongarm hp compaq h2210
It works fairly well on my 2210 :o)
Used "Cabinstaller" to put it on SD card.
It's not stable yet, but fast, very fast!
Well, I'm new here and I have a Windows Mobile 2003 SE device but I can't find anywhere a Midlet Manager. Can someone help me with that? (I don't want to have a 45 days trial version...)
You need to hack the program, to get arround the 45 day trial issue. The trial period is there to prevent you from using this beta trial, anny longer than the test period. There will be a new version available soon.
I just wanted to see anyone knew about the Midlet Manager....
Oh well, I will do that.
I have the O2 Xda mini (German version don’t have II) and I was able to use opera but I had to dl from the page "matriculated" mention I dl the 2003 version and it worked GREAT but I had to turn off the display image by from the browser > Menu > Display > and then uncheck the "Load Image" I was able to browse most site of my interest hope this will work for other O2 xda II mini user I found the preinstall version of Internet Explorer is a piece of junk.
It works fine but it's not only a limited free trial it's also cripple ware. Most of the features of Opera aren't unlocked until you buy this app for $24. Personally I refuse to pay for a web browser anymore. It's not enough better than the browser that was bundled with my PPC (Pocket Internet Explorer) to justify sinking almost $30 into a browser that isn't significantly better than what I already have for free.
>elnator< Couldn't agree more, that's why I use Webby. Free, fast, stable, usefull.
Opera Mini is FREE, folks! Don't get confused with Opera Mini and Opera for Windows Mobile. The later is paid software, but Opera Mini is NOT. Opera for Windows Mobile is a native WinCE software, but Opera Mini is a J2ME applet and requires J2ME VM to run.
Wrong, guys. The software this page links to is a 30-day trial. After that you must PAY. There is a J2ME version (Opera Mini 3.0) which is free, but you must download it from a different location: http://www.operamini.com/download/?dl=pc. Beware that for the J2ME version your mobile device must have a working internet connection and that your device must have a MIDP2 runtime and an associated midlet manager. Most WM2003SE and WM2005 devices are compatible, WM2003 and PocketPC 2000 are not.
From http://www.operamini.com/download/?dl=pc I got the "opera-mini-3.0.6306-advanced-de.jad" and "opera-mini-3.0.6306-advanced-de.jar" files (choosing 'Generic-->Advanced MIDP 2'). I use WM5 on a Fujitsu Siemens Pocket Loox N500 which obviously does not provide a MIDP runtime. Where can I get this MIDP 2 runtime (google did not help) an how can i get it running. I'd really appreciate if anybody could help. Thanks.
I followed the instructions in this article and got me a working and free MIDP environment. Opera mini however does not run on it (the previous version did, don't know what exactly changed). Other apps like Google maps work fine. I use a HTC Himalya running WM2003.

Thanks a lot: I got the IBM Midlet-Manager and successfully installed it on my PPC. After finding out that I had to specify the location of the opera-mini-*.jad using the syntax "file:\ ..." I could also install the opera-mini browser. Great. Everything worked out fine: I can start Opera Mini and it seems to work just fine. There is only one however imported issue to be solved: Opera Mini cannot establish a connection with the internet (the Explorer - at the same time - can). I tried both the protocols "Socket" and "http" but neither of them worked. Anyone has an idea what to do.
Using http://mini.opera.com/dl/iGs3W33rvZ619eFKP44AAA9Q/mini.jar
you can get Version 2.0 of the opera-mini browser. Unlike V3.0 V2.0 works on my PPC. If anybody knows what has to be done to get V3.0 working, I am still interested.
I have exactly the same issue. It seems this software was written for JAVA based (smart)phones rather than for pda's. Version 2 (thanx for the link) works fine. Similar issues exist with Google mail. Google maps works fine.
I can't imagine why this app was rated 7/10 points. I give it 2/10 points. Also tested Minimo 0.016 and give 3/10 points. But I assume that the Minimo bugs will be fixed because it has still version 0.016! At the moment I prefer PIE...
YES, this software was written for JAVA based devices rather than for WM devices ;-)
You may have a deficient Pocket PC as far as Java is concerned :)
Opera Mini works fine on both my HTC machines : a Universal and a TyTN.
nansen2 did you try menu->tools->settings->Network setup?
Amazing. Contrarily to version 3.0, this one seems to work. Understand, I use a somewhat exotic configuration, a HTC himalaya with WM 2003 and an IBM midlet manager.
After downloading the midlet manager from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286604 and downloading the software from the opera site. It finally worked on my ppc6700 runnin wm5. It fast, super fast. pages load in a blink of a eye. i know what browser i will be using from now on
I cant get mini to work on my ppc 6700. The free trial work fine. So I wanted to get the free mini opera version. I have tried it all the active sync. the phone number thing. Funny they dont give detailed instructions. Just follow your according to your phones instructions or something like that. Like the phone has instructions for adding mini opera. And if you DO get the free trial. BEWARE all the junk they put in your phone is locked up in there. I now have an icon onmy today screen thats worthless and one under the programs again worth less. They obviously can make the free trial work effortlessly. But you have to be genius. To get the crap out (after free trial)or get the free mini version to work. Dont get me wrong I really liked the free trial and had I known about the mini opera before hand would have tried that first. If anyone has detailed instructions send them on to glsh@yahoo.com. Oh I have google maps down loaded also no problems there with the java.
This little Java app is awesome! I am using it on my Windows Mobile 5 O2 XDA Flame and it flies! With the Java support under WM5, it works no problem. Too bad for WM2003 users though - there's no java support on their devices.
Happily, I am running Opera Mini 4 my trusty Toshiba E800 (WM2003FE) using the TAO Intent Midlet Manager. So it is possible to use OM4 on at least some WM2003 devices. This is where you will find the most comprehensive how-to : http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=644&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1
Poui,
I am trying to install TAO intent midlet manager on my E800 without success.
Which version works for you and ehere did you download it from?
I copied the cab file to the E800 but when I click on it in Programs I get the message "not a valid ppc software"/
Arie,
Check out Werners's response (dated 10/17/07 @ 00:28 ) to my inquiry about the correct cab to use at this uri: http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&c=1&page=1&more=1&title=new_version_of_best_midlet_manager_relea&tb=1&pb=1&disp=single. It is in the comments section of an article titled "Post details: New version of best Midlet manager released! - 12/21/06. The link provided downloads a cab labelled "TAO_JVM_10_1_2_76_dFine_mod". This is the only one that will work on the Toshiba. I found less problematic to install it to main storage. Hope this helps!
Poui,
Thanks for your reply.
I downloaded and installed the mentioned file.
However, when I tried to install the Opera Mini 4 through the midlet manager the ppc froze and I had to perform a hard reset.
Any idea what went wrong?
Arie,
Glad you found the right Midlet Manager. I have not experienced your problem. My guess is that you inadvertenly downloaded and tried to install the wrong OM4 files. Werner has an excellent step=by-step guide titled installing " Java Midlets on the Pocket PC - the Complete Tutorial". I read and followed this and have not had any issues with TAO compatible midlets. My advice, check it out this minute! - http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=644&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1#more644
@Poui, thanx for the midlet manager hint. I installed it on my HTC Hilamaya (upgraded to WM6 using the TofClock ROM from xda-developers) and all works fine. OM4 runs fine on it.
Poui,
Thanks for your help.
Anyhow, for some reason it does not work for me, so i'll give it up for now.
Hi Arie,
Too bad it did not work. Running OM4 has significantly enhanced the utility of my Toshiba. Should you make another attempt, I suggest that you uninstall the Midlet Manager and any debris of the OM4 install effort. Then reinstall the specified TAO MM to default storage/main memory and follow exactly the OM4 download/install guide Werner provided. I did this and both apps work superfine.
OM4 rocks! Good luck.
OM4.1, a must for all WM owners. Very superior over IE. However I miss the functionality of copying from webpages. Great feature is the built in RSS reader. Very loading pages and images too.
OM 4 has been running well on my ipaq 6828. Ipaq 6828 has esmertec midlet manager. BUT, I can download anything by this Opera Mini. When I click button "download" there was no respon at all. Any body can help me???
Sorry, I resent my comment : OM 4 has been running well on my ipaq 6828. Ipaq 6828 has esmertec midlet manager. BUT, I CAN NOT download anything by this Opera Mini. When I click button "download" there was no respon at all. Any body can help me???
When downloading, it usally loads up Pocket IE, that's what it does for me and then I download from there?
There's now a native WM version of Opera Mini 5 -- no Java required -- but a Java version of 5 is still available, as well, and no longer in beta.
I'm using the native WM version right now, and it's super fast, but like the Java version, it has a serious bug: Submitting text from web forms frequently just resets the form, resulting in an empty text box, with nothing posted at all. It takes several attempts to actually complete a post -- a real time-waster! Opera's official forum for Opera Mini has plenty of complaints about this issue.
Now I may or may not be able to post this comment; it's definitely a hit-or-miss proposition!
Install Opera Mini 5 for WM2003 and WM2003se:
http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=540371&t=1272151793
I've tested it on my Axim x30h (WM2003se) and it works perfectly.
I just wanted to mention that the Pocket PC 2003 version also works on generic Windows CE 4.2, 5.0, 6.0, etc. devices. IE tablets, Handheld PCs and Navigation devices.
LOL, installed the latest Opera mini then decided to uninstall. After the uninstall, my entire SD card had been emptied.....
Are you sure this is related ? I've performed some uninstall on various device with this soft without any problem... I'm quite surprised... I hope you had a backup of SD card (remember, this is 'only' a temporary storage...)
