ThemeGenCE is a desktop utility to create Pocket PC themes. You can customize your Today screen and Start Menu with personal images, and choose colors of texts and bars. It is a very complete application coded in Delphi 7. It offers so many functions that we cannot describe all of them in this small review. You can have a look at the animated tutorial on the author's site. - it supports any image format - compatible with WM5 - supports QVGA, VGA and squared screens - allows to modify pictures (effects) - allows to add text - helps to modify existing themes - allows to visualize the result on the Pocket PC through Activesync - Multi language A must have for those who want to customize their Pocket PC. Version 1.8 available Improvements : a) Square Themes 240x240 : added in Options page. (Use Main Page Options tab) b) More Image Processings in Images page : Contrast button added. Effect Options with 6 tabs : 1) Same as in previous versions 2) Background added to the image by modification of image transparency - with 1 color - 2 colors gradients : top-bottom, diagonal and centered gradient. With centered gradient you can define a transparency for the image 3) Image transformed by patterns 4) Floyd - Steinberg 5) Radial Blur 6) Radial Zoom c) Text add module. Improvements : a) Enhanced Graphics in application : icons with shadow and better resolution for Buttons gradient color on ToolBar in main page, in images pages and in "Read a TSK on PDA" page. ThemeGenCE now works with Vista ! I have found the problem which hangs Vista ! It was a silly thing in the AboutBox ! Now I am adapting windows for the program because borders in Vista are larger than with XP and lower, so the clientwidth is shorter. See you soon with an universal version (Vista Compatible). |

I like this program! The only problem I'm having is making the menu bars stay black. In the previews they are black (just as I have selected), but when I import the newly made .tsk file into my PPC it makes the start menu bars gray. Anyone having this problem? I use HTC 8125 or Dopod 838 (WM5 QVGA). It's quite frustrating!

ThemeGenCE version 2.0.0.0 Vista Compatible « Works with Vista » : Adaptation of the size of the windows, because the Client Width in Vista is a little smaller than with XP for the same width of window. Adaptation for synchronization with Windows Mobile Device Center. The notifications are not always adapted in very rare cases, but all seems to work. Some Forms use specificities of Vista (Options page and page About) While becoming compatible with Vista, ThemeGenCE remains compatible with the preceding operating systems. Corrections : Correction of inherent problems in Delphi 7 for the modal windows (in the older versions of ThemeGenCE some modal forms could be hidden by the main form, which prevented the continuation of the program and required to kill the ThemeGenCE process). Corrections of minor bugs. Preview Skins and « Cosmetic » : Addition of a new Preview skin : Hermes. « Cosmetic» : improvement of buttons images and icons. PDA Information if connected by ActiveSync or Mobile Windows Mobile Device Center : To « give me pleasure » and maybe to give pleasure to the curious one, I added some explorer functions for files and the databases on the PDA. Three new buttons on the 2nd tab in the PDA information page : Images : Enumerates bmp, jpg, png, gif, tif, 2bp images which are on the PDA. Allows preview by selecting the image : thumbnail. Real preview while clicking on thumbnail. Allows to import the image selected of the PDA towards the PC (Import button, Save Folder Name saved in the ini file). Extension : Enumerates files of the PDA having a selected extension (with * - Star - one obtains all the files). Allows to open a selected file : By the usual application on the PC for this extension. By the application chosen by the user: “Open with...”. With Notepad. Allows file importation on the PC if access is not denied. Databases : Enumerates volumes and Databases on PDA (only informative). |

For Thanoa : You have to define special keys in WM5 to have bars in black. 1) Have you defined BaseHue in WM5 options ? If not, WM5 will genearate Basehue depending on your color settings. 2) Have you defined specific keys for WM5 ? If yes, It supersedes BaseHue. This application seems very high developed and has great functions, but unfortunally the GUI looks totally messed up... it could be more structured... Or I didn't understand its structure yet. |

The amount of options and possibilities is huge - I woildnt know how to arrange it differently maybe by making a bigger optical separation of groups directly necessary for making themes and some additional tools group |

"meant to be ironic?" no, it is a private joke in reference with a french cartoon "Lucky Luke". At the end of each cartoon, Lucky Luke says "I am a poor lonesome cowboy". For me, it is because I have not a lot of feedback for my program. In 2 years for ThemeGenCE, I had not a lot of suggestions for improvements. Nevertheless, at the beginning of the year, there were more than 40 000 downloads by month... The tutorial is seen by 58% in Europe, 18% in Asia, 19% in North America... |

ThemeGenCE V 2.5 - Preview WM6 ThemeGenCE version 2.5 has been recompiled with Delphi 2007 for Win 32 which allows to develop Vista compatible applications. ThemeGenCE stays compatible with earlier Windows versions. Some minor bugs have been corrected. This version now gives a new preview for the last Windows Mobile OS : WM6. On the main form, there is a new button (on the right side in the middle) above the preview button already available in ThemeGenCE version 2.0. This button gives a preview for Windows Mobile 2002, 2003, WM5 et WM6, with a preview for "Today" and "Start" pages in portrait and landscape. Below this button, you have the preview with "Skin" PDA choosen. WM5 or WM6 preview in the Skin PDA can be selected in the radiogroup (NB : this option is saved in a file for futher use). Precisions about the algorithm for choosing Bars Hue (attempting to do the Microsoft algorithm) will be given in ThemeGenCE forum from CodePPC (also in english. "Poor english", sorry). Soon... |

This is a nice piece of software. Just one thing I can't figure out. When I'm editing the colors of my theme, I can't seem to figure out which item represents the highlight when scrolling up and down the today page. On my Window Mobile 5 device (Treo 700wx), when you scroll up or down the today screen with the 5-way navigator button, it highlight items on the today screen. I can't sem to change this??? Any ideas?? Thanks for a great application. |

@BenThon ThemeGenCE is undoubtedly a good program, but I find it very difficult to grasp what it is actually for. Telling me it will create or edit a theme doesn't actually do much for me, since the concept of "theme" is like a grey ghost. Your CAB analytical program MSCEInf, however, is just brilliant. Keeping track of files, registry settings etc that a CAB installation dumps all over the device is extremely helpful. |

If you don't want to use internal image builder, you can put your images in the application dir with the right names depending on the theme format chosen : - tdywater.gif and stwater.gif for standard theme or only stwater.gif if you checked UseStartImage. - tdywater_240_320, stwater_240_320, tdywater_320_240, stwater_320_240 with .gif extension or only the two start images if you checked UseStartImage. - tdywater_480_640, stwater_480_640, tdywater_640_480, stwater_640_480 with .gif extension or only the two start images if you checked UseStartImage. ThemeGenCE, on idle, tests the presence of the necessary files for the theme format chosen and enables the create button if it finds these files in the application dir. All explanations for this is in the help file (ThemeGenCEEn.chm) when you click in the upper button ThemeGenCE Job. But who read help file ?... See also MSDN page : http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa455927.aspx For simplification in ThemeGenCE I put gif extension in the TSK, because Windows Mobile (and also Windows Desktop) recognized image format whatever extension is. So, if you use the tip I give you, put gif extension whatever your image is. |

Create WM6 Theme On the Web (Beta) For those who find ThemeGenCE hard to figure out, now you can create your own WM6 (and earlier OS) Themes directly on the web without installing a program to do it. My Desktop program ThemeGenCE is more complete, but with this online version you can easily make your own Themes. Progression is more linear and easier for beginners : 1) Theme Format Choice 2) Images Choice 3) Theme Images Validation 4) Theme Colors Choice 5) Last Theme Options... 6) End of Theme Creation... It is still a "Work in progress", so be indulgent. Here is the link for the english version (in my poor english...) : On Line PocketPC Theme Generator Advantages : - you do not need to install on your Desktop a theme creator. - it is independant from OS (Windows, Linux, MacOs...). - all is written in PHP 5 on server side and Javascript on client side. - you only need Internet connexion. But this version does not include specific WM5, 6 keys because they are linked to Theme name. |

ThemeGenCE Changes in version 2.6 : • Modifications of all forms in the program to fit in a 1024 x 600 screen (hiding Taskbar). This seems to be Notebooks screen sizes actually. Vicott Wong (http://mobisapienz.com/) suggests me this. Maximal sizes for forms are now : o Width : 880 o Height : 597 • ThemeGenCE now reads some exotic Themes (TSK) which contains for instance standards images with also specific images for VGA or QVGA format. • Correction of minor bugs. • Ability to build themes for WVGA and WQVGA : For WQVGA stwater_240_400.gif stwater_400_240.gif tdywater_240_400.gif tdywater_400_240.gif For WVGA stwater_480_800.gif stwater_800_480.gif tdywater_480_800.gif tdywater_800_480.gif For adapting ThemeGenCE for WVGA I have chosen these sizes which seem to be right even if user modifies while building Theme USeStartImage variable : stwater_480_800.gif -> 480 x 748 stwater_800_480.gif -> 800 x 428 tdywater_480_800.gif -> 480 x 748 tdywater_800_480.gif -> 800 x 428 And half of these sizes for WQVGA.
