PIM Backup has been made in order to replace the PPCBckpContacts application.
As its predecessor, PPCPimBackup allows to backup/restore the Personal information of the pocket pc user, but new functionalities have been added.
This tool allows to backup/restore:
- appointments
- call logs
- contacts
- messages (SMS, MMS, ...)
- speed dials
- tasks
It is possible to schedule a backup, each day of the week and this at a specific hour. If the pocket pc is suspended, it will wake up and do the backup. You can eventually control the number of backups to keep and switch off the pocket pc after the scheduled backup is finished.

Looks interesting, but the download link is dead

Link works now 04-09-07
Program works OK too. It actually saved me almost straight after install and backup. Two separate SMS came in, I backed up with this program to the card, then I hung the device doing something else. The soft reset fell foul of WM5's charming habit of not saving to flash straight away - the 2 new SMS were lost on reset. This program restored them for me without fuss !
Doubtless there are other tools to do this, but this program worked without trouble.

Interesting program. Now you can backup only PIM instead all files.

I am getting error msg that the program is NOT a valid win32 application..... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

asfoor
the EXE file is a WM app as it stands. It is not a PC app. Just transfer the EXE file as is to your PDA

link is dead here to this is what it says after the redirect,
"In order to accept POST request originating from this domain, the admin must add this domain to the whitelist."

This is the second best backup tool for me, after SPB BAckup
But I just love this one
If only it could save messages and contacts in .txt it would have been more than fun.

This is hands down the BEST pim backup of any kind, commercial or free. I was able to recover my old PIM data after a ROM upgrade by running a wm6 simulator with my old pim.vol, running ppcpimbackup on it, transferring the backup file to my real device with new WM6.1 ROM, and it loaded on perfectly. The backup format is also human-readable, so this could be your solution to moving to or from a different platform. I looked far & wide for an app that would read or write the pim.vol format, and there basically is nothing out there; this is as close as it gets.
The "big boy" backup programs (SPB, Sprite etc.) back up your whole filesystem but they basically just copy the files. They won't protect you across a ROM upgrade or moving to a different incompatible WM device. This one will. Not saying SPB/Sprite aren't great at what they do (disaster recovery cold-metal backup/recovery); just ppcpimbackup has a very important niche that is not filled by any other program. I sent this guy a donation.

just installed it on my HP HW6915 using wm5, all went ok, did a backup too.
seems like a great program, thanks.

would be nice if you could transfer backup to pc then open sms, mms, outlook items. but it looks like it did backup. Program should transfer to pc for viewing. as a business man on the road it would be great to backup, transfer to laptop and view text messages from the day.
