Basic GPS software with geographical or UTM grid drawing.
A step further than raw numeric coordinates.
- Displaying Geographical grid for position between Lattitude -80S and 84N.
- Displaying UTM grid for position between -80S and 84N with small exceptions at irregular zone joining arround Norway and Svalbard Island.
- Displaying current position on grid.
- Can very easy set and store 6 Place Points - Home, Car, Target and 3 Way Points.
- Can draw and store your way for last 600 points. Each point is set when you change direction.
- Manual entering of position (and converting between Geo and UTM).
- One click changing of grid labels (top, bottom, left, right).
- Zoom In and Zoom Out of grid (smallest rectangle 10 pixels, biggest according to screen size).
- Grid is based on 1'x1' rectangles for Geo and 1km x 1km quadrupols for UTM. Which should be suitable for most of maps.
- Easy graphical user interface (only buttons, no menus).
- Draw UTM grid even on zone joinings
(No map displaying)

Basic idea is OK, and the interface is well-enough done.
But, it won't connect to my GPS port. Within a second or two, a "timeout" message appears and the program stops trying to connect. It seems it needs some other program to turn the GPS on first. That seems pointless. I've tried a number of COM settings.
I'm using an ETEN X500 Sirf111 chip with WM5. Maybe the WM5 part is the problem, since it "manages" the GPS chip function and GridHIKER is not compatible with this.

Version 1.02 is ready to download.

Version 1.02 works OK. It doesn't allow WM5 "automatic" management of GPS chip access, but if you point it to the actual hardware port and baud rate, it connects OK.

I use HP iPaq 6365 (windows 2003), already installed Net CF v2 SP1.
The installation of 1.02 was OK (using the cab file), but it don't run, even after soft reset.
