ActiveSync Toggle - v1.0.4.0 Categorie: Desktop Software
Screen Shot
If you are like me and do not constantly synchronize your PocketPC with your desktop, you do not need to have ActiveSync running in the background.
ActiveSync Toggle will let you save space and stop the wcescomm.exe program from running (it can be re-launch if you need it). It will also clean the registy key where ActiveSync is set to launch at start-up. In short, it a Microsoft utility taking up too much room. Why didn't anyone think of making the option available to launch ActiveSync at start-up or not?
In terms of accessories, you will gain in stability since the experience shows that this utility is in proportion to the number of programs displayed in the System Tray.
Don't forget to remove your PocketPC from its cradle before closing the program.

I use this little app quite a lot (I just saw an update to 1.0.2.1 on the website).

In some occassions I need to as much CPU/ memory as I have and activesync sometimes eats a little bit of both constantly (while there is nothing to sync...). In that occassions activesynctoggle is a must-have to get rid of activesync for a while.

RDA (11-29-2005) - v1.0.3.0
What should be done is have activesync start up only when docked, and when the device is removed from the dock, activesync should be terminated.

This tool is useful, however if the author can consider what I stated above, that would definitely be a fantasic modification.

Great little utility. I use it all the time. I agree with RDA about the auto-closing/opening of Activesync. However that feature would probably require another process to be constantly running, nullifying its effectiveness.

I also agree 100% with RDA and to clarify; Yes, for this to be possible you would need another background process to be running. However, this process would probably take up an insignificant amount of memory even on low-end systems.

How about just killing AS when you un-dock, without the auto-open option. I'd leave that part as a manual re-activating of AS. Just my two-cents worth. I really do love this utility. It sits quite nicely in my Start menu's quick launch to manuall kill/ start AS.

For me, it's much simpler just press Ctrl-Shift-Esc and kill ActiveSync process.
Or you can use tskill/taskkill (\WINDOWS\system32\taskkill.exe, \WINDOWS\system32\tskill.exe) to make batch file.
