It now supports two chess engines, both based of crafty, so it can now play you or analyze you moves. Good program, good boards,good skins, good work. Deserves more than a 5/10, more like 7/10-8/10.

The best freeware chess program overall. It has good graphics, interface, and lets you choose the chess board colors and chess piece set. I am rated at 1030 and this game gives me a run for my money with its depth set relatively low. The new version has two seperate chess engines and is much improved over the old version. Also, it now supports landscape mode on Windows Mobile 2003SE! If you play chess, download it now!

Version 2+ should be rated 8/10. This is a very functional PGN reader, although unlike pocket fritz it does not make index files so it takes a few seconds to open a very large PGN file containing thousands of games. Additionally, you can download versions with chess engines built in, including Crafty SE which is the first free chess engine that seriously tries to offer decent weaker play (rather than stupid weaker play). There are other engines available, and they are strong.
Nice touches are four different chess sets, a menu option to associate with pgn files, and it is stable. The user interface is good. Agree with BBQ; this is the best freeware chess program.
