PhonTuner - v1.0.1 Categorie: Music
Screen Shot
A little utility software very light weight (84ko) that I found very amusing if not very precise.
It is analyzing for you, real time, the sounds emitted in front of the MIC of the Pocket PC and tells you the height of the key but also the texture and the volume.
Musicologist would make a fuss if I was saying that you can tune your guitar with that software…
Let say that this will allow the less perfectionist of the musicians or singers to know where they stand.
The authors are anticipating to add the emission of reference frequency. It's something to keep an eye on.

Update: The versions 2.x.x are no longer freeware

I think you've stepped out of your knowlege box on this one. As a pitch analizer, this software can be used to set temperament on the first octave of a piano from which the rest of the instrument can be tuned. Afterwards, tested aurally and electronically the tuning is accurate. At this point, I'd like to know just what you're credentials are that you could even consider, less identify "perfectionist" and "less perfectionist" musicians or singers. Give the creator a bit of credit. There is nothing on the market which runs on this platform which can perform the way this software does. I'm sure this commentary will fall under the "useless comments" designation, which is fine by me. I don't really suffer from a bloated ego. I just hope you read it...

I won't comment on the accuracy of Phontuner, but be careful with this software from an installation standpoint. When you install Phontuner, it asks you to soft reset your device, which is unusual for software installations unless they need to modify your system settings.

I decided to uninstall it because I already have FreqTune, which is a much better tuning program. However, the system reported that it couldn't completely remove the program. I found the .EXE was still in place, as well as the help file, the Start Menu shortcut, and a couple of registry entries, all of which I had to delete manually.

Agreed that the first reviewer stepped out of his/her "knowledge box". I use this tuner for guitar, violin, mandolin, and bass (though it hears 12th fret harmonics better than it hears the low E fundamental). It enables me to get closer than any of my other tuners, and by reporting the precise frequency it "hears", I can tune closer than my pretty-precise ears allow.

Now, to get it re-written to run on the Android OS ....
