NoteM - v1.21 Categorie: Music
Screen Shot
NoteM is a program that I have kept installed on my Pocket PC ever since it came out.

This utility lets you record voice notes as MP3 instead of the built-in WAV format. You will quickly see what an enormous advantage this has in terms of memory usage.

Another nice feature: if you need to, you can convert a just recorded MP3 file into a WAV file. A must-have.

Note: Version 1.21 is for WM2003, 1.10 continuing to be the current version for Pocket PC 2002

Guys, this is a must-have program, great free application, great sound quality, this is one of the "standard" programs in my PPC!

This is agreeably a must-have, and should be part of the Windows Mobile OS. I have recorded over an hour at a time without problem and the recording quality is great at much less space requirements than the default sound recorder...which, by the way, Microsoft is considering dropping entirely. I have used this for over a year and say it's one of Mike's "Must Haves".

How do you get this programme to actually start recording ?

ianl (05-18-2006) - v1.21
OK I've found where the programme was storing the MP3 files

This program does not appear to run correctly on WM5 - or at least some WM5 devices. It shuts off sound playing, an the bottom menu alternates between old style and WM5.

I had trouble with the download link on this page - for a start I don't run Windows on my main PC, so I'm already at a disadvantage when it comes to SETUP.EXE files! - but I can often extract the cabs using wine under Linux to run setup programs. This one: no luck. I tried to run under dosemu, but that didn't work either.

After a little googling around, I found there is a CAB file that can be got from
http://freenet-homepage.de/FreeCabs/programs_p2.htm
And I managed to install from this.

However, I got some hard locks requiring a soft reset when trying the program out (this on an HTC Universal, default WM5.)

I think, though, that this was a bad interaction with gsGetFile.dll that I had recently installed. After removing that and the accompanying .cpl file, I was able to record and play back mp3. I could be wrong about the source of this problem - I will try to use it some more and see if it happens again.
