CheckPOInt is a software restricted to the owners of TomTom Navigator. POI is a term meaning "Point of Interest." All navigation software have a somewhat complete list of POI and allow user-specific addresses to be entered. TomTom Navigator suggests a more evolved system which would allow categories, denoted with icons, for anything and everything. But these files, called "Overlay" (with a .ov2 extension) are very static. By default, you can only visualize the POI on the map and define them as destinations; we note that assigning a POI to one category is not that simple. CheckPOInt, software discussed here, suggests additional functions: the overlays are sorted by categories, making the capture easy and you can program a detection as you approach a POI. Another plus for the software, it is assigned to a free website which allows OV2 files synchronization. By swapping well-known POI, a true community is built.
A must-have for travelers! As the number of active users increases, so does the interest by others. Simple interface and small file synchronization are key to this software. One can miss the lack of integration to the storage card, it is impossible to capture it with a single (and cautious) conductor and one can miss the approach of a repetitive POI when there are strong speed variations.

Freezes my Dell Axim X30 H :-(
|
Yup. My Axim X3i locks as well (on the previous v5 release at any rate ... not tried this one). All fine but as soon as I select to synchronise it prompts to start TomTom from CheckPOInt and then freezes. Even worse the only way to get TomTom back seems to be to uninstall CheckPOInt and TT and then reinstall TT. This is laborious enough that I won't be trying CheckPOInt again until it is proven (by someone else!) to work on Axims.
This is a real shame because I swore by v3 and the new "alert" functionality in TT5 is nowhere near as good.

I should probably have checked at http://checkpoint.oabsoftware.nl/body-download.htm before posting. Haven't had a chance to try the TT5.1 upgrade out but there is hope.

A perfect tool for TTN users! I also use POIplace (http://poiplace.oabsoftware.nl/) for synchronizing POIs. The only drawbacks of POIplace: a) POIs cannot have names b) Sync is not really a sync - just a download
