Crippin is a program for password protection of individual files.
In the limited freeware version, passwords are limited to 2 letters, no guarantee of high security. Despite this, the software is not without interest: it performs file compression, which can save you a greater or lesser amount of space, depending on the file format.
The program has excellent ergonomics, better than other software of the same sort reviewed in our database. When a file is encrypted, you see a .CPN extension added after the original name. That is well considered, since it lets you continue to know what type of file you're dealing with. Just clicking on the file launches Crippin, asking you whether to decrypt it. Once changes have been made and the associated application is closed, that returns the focus to Crippin, allowing you to re-encrypt the file. It doesn't happen automatically. Note that Crippin follows Microsoft's recommendations and only recognizes the \My Documents folder and sub-folders, both in RAM and on storage cards.
In short, this is a good small utility for protecting your files when all you want is a minimum of security.

actual version 2.10 (two ten)
best encrypt software for PPC I have seen so far. Best feature is that after editing the file the focus return to crippin for re-encryption! Only downside is the 2 letter encrytion in free-version (well, but it is free!). Works perfect on WM5.0
I give it at least a 7 or 8/10.
